FAQ

How do you photograph weddings?

My approach to wedding photography is to capture every coordinated and unplanned moment as it unfolds in an effort to retell the story of your wedding day through your wedding photos. While I believe it is crucial to be prepared ahead of time, I also feel that it is the unexpected and special moments that make weddings magical and memorable. For that reason, I am diligent about being in the right place at the right time. If I had to describe my style, I would say I lean towards a journalistic/documentary-style, with a heavy reliance on beautiful candid moments. I seek for my images to convey the emotions that were present at the time they were captured and I believe that is a goal that I consistently deliver on.

Where are you based and do you travel?

I am based in Queensbury, NY, just a few miles south of Lake George. I frequently photograph weddings between Albany, NY and Lake Placid, NY. I am willing and happy to travel for your wedding beyond this territory, but a small travel expense may be incurred.

When will we get our photos?

I make it a priority to deliver my images quickly. I average between 1-2 weeks for portrait sessions and 3-4 weeks for weddings. Editing is a time-consuming process, but don't hesitate to reach out to me for an update!

How many pictures will we receive?

Regardless of what type of session you schedule, I will deliver all of the digitals to you, with the exception of those that are repetitive, out-of-focus, or otherwise not up to my standard. The quantity of photos delivered varies based upon the type of shoot and other factors, but you can anticipate receiving anywhere from 35-80 images per hour of photography.

How will I receive my photos?

Your images will be delivered via a password-protected online gallery where you can view, download, favorite, share and order prints! You can access your gallery through the link I provide or the "Clients" portal on my website.

Can I order prints through your website?

Yes! In today's digital world, it's completely understandable that most clients are only interested in the digitals. As convenient as they are, you can't hang a digital image on the wall for all your guests to admire...okay digital frames are a thing, but you know what I mean! For that reason, I include free prints with all of my sessions (no purchase necessary). Prints are delivered directly from a professional print lab, to ensure top quality and timely delivery.

Can you help me plan my wedding?

Absolutely! Truth be told, I love everything about weddings. My wedding day was one of the best days of my life and I want all of my clients to have the same experience. Ask me about my recommendations for timing, vendors or anything related to weddings and I am happy to share my experience.

Why work with Jason Checkla Photography?

I have long held a philosophy that it isn't THAT hard to take a nice picture at a wedding. After all, weddings are beautiful events full of smiles and picturesque scenery. That said, I am proud of the images that I create. I believe it is your photographer's professionalism, accountability and personality that are equally, if not more important. It is important to me that my clients feel comfortable working with me -- for that reason, I encourage an initial consultation to see that we "click" (no pun intended). I show up early and usually leave late from my allotted time slots because ultimately, my client's satisfaction is more important than anything else. Lastly, I am diligent about protecting my client's images (see the question about my gear!).

What gear do you use?

As a general principle, I am 110% prepared for all scenarios when it comes to photographing my clients and their events. That means I have backup cameras, backup lenses, backup batteries, backup lighting gear and stands, etc. You get the idea. When I started photographing weddings, I vowed (again, no pun intended) to never lose a client's photos to file corruption or otherwise. For that reason, I shoot on two cameras that both write files to two cards at a time. As soon as I get home from a wedding, I backup those files to an external harddrive, copy that harddrive to a second harddrive, and upload the files to a cloud server. This means your images are safely stored in FIVE locations immediately. This crazy process ensures your images are safe and I can sleep at night!

I frequently upgrade and update my camera equipment so that my clients can feel confident that they are receiving the absolute highest quality images possible. My cameras, lenses and lighting kit are suitable for any and all environments that I might find myself in, from direct sun to the darkest of reception halls.
